Job Title: Research AssistantJob Description

This Research Assistant role focuses on supporting ophthalmic clinical research by performing high-quality imaging, maintaining accurate study documentation, and collaborating closely with clinical research staff. You will help ensure that all imaging procedures meet sponsor and regulatory standards while providing a professional and supportive experience for study participants.

Responsibilities

+ Prepare participants for ophthalmic imaging procedures, ensuring they understand the process and feel comfortable throughout the visit.

+ Perform ophthalmic imaging and confirm that all images meet sponsor quality standards before participants leave the facility.

+ Upload, label, organize, and maintain imaging files in strict accordance with study protocols and sponsor requirements.

+ Maintain and calibrate ophthalmic imaging equipment regularly to ensure accurate and reliable imaging results.

+ Assist investigators and clinical research staff during participant visits by supporting imaging needs and related study procedures.

+ Accurately document all procedures and maintain complete, clear, and timely source documentation for each participant.

+ Ensure compliance with protocol requirements, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), HIPAA, and all applicable regulatory standards.

+ Communicate effectively with Clinical Research Coordinators to support participant flow, visit scheduling, and timely completion of study activities.

+ Participate in sponsor-provided training related to imaging procedures, study protocols, and research standards as required.

Essential Skills

+ Strong attention to detail with a focus on achieving high-quality ophthalmic images.

+ Excellent interpersonal and patient communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with participants and research staff.

+ Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing assigned tasks and timelines.

+ High school diploma or equivalent.

+ At least 1 year of experience as an Ophthalmic Technician, Ophthalmic Assistant, or Ophthalmic Photographer.

+ Hands-on experience performing Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT).

+ Knowledge of or ability to adhere to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and HIPAA requirements.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ Previous experience in clinical research is preferred and will help you transition quickly into study workflows.

+ Familiarity with ophthalmic imaging equipment maintenance and calibration.

+ Comfort with data entry and maintaining organized electronic records.

+ Ability to collaborate effectively with investigators, Clinical Research Coordinators, and other research staff.

Work Environment

This role is based in an office setting within a clinical research environment focused on ophthalmology. You will work with ophthalmic imaging equipment, including Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) devices, and use computer systems for image upload, labeling, and data management. The work involves direct interaction with study participants and close collaboration with clinical research teams during scheduled study visits.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hattiesburg, MS.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
