Principal Data Hall Designer
**Job Description**

Strategizes the planning, design, and optimization of data center white space, including rack layout, hot/cold aisle containment, power distribution, cable pathways, and build phases, ensuring a transformative impact on broader strategies and industry standards. Leads engagements with colocation providers, developers, and multidisciplinary internal teams (e.g., mechanical, plumbing, construction operations) to drive the strategic alignment and execution of innovative white space designs that transform organizational objectives into substantial business impact.

**Key Responsibilities**

**White Space and Infrastructure Design:**

-Strategizes the planning, design, and optimization of data center white space, including rack layout, hot/cold aisle containment, power distribution, cable pathways, and build phases, ensuring a transformative impact on broader strategies and industry standards.

-Leads the maintenance of comprehensive white space documentation such as room layouts, rack elevations, bill of materials, and structured cabling designs, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and line of business goals.

-Shapes and refines design standards and Basis of Design (BoD) documents, guiding internal and partner teams to deliver consistent and innovative white space solutions that enhance efficiency and scalability.

-Designs and strategizes low voltage structured cabling systems to support scalable, high-performance compute, storage, and network systems, leveraging emerging technologies and addressing complex industry needs.

-Oversees and influences the review of new site layouts and proposed fit-out designs, including failover configurations, ensuring compliance and strategic alignment with line of business standards.

**Cross-Functional Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:**

-Leads engagements with colocation providers, developers, and internal teams (e.g., facilities, construction, operations) to drive the strategic alignment and execution of innovative white space designs that transform line of business objectives into substantial business impact.

-Leads collaboration with multidisciplinary engineering functions (e.g., Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire, Controls), leveraging deep subject matter expertise to ensure seamless integration, enhance system reliability, anticipate complex risks, and drive innovation.

-Directs and influences complex project coordination meetings, aligning cross-functional teams on scope, timelines, and critical design updates, contributing to and shaping broader line of business strategy.

-Serves as a subject matter expert on the partnership with technology partners (e.g., network, compute, carrier) around locating information and resources.

**Project and Program Leadership:**

-Leads and influences high impact white space design initiatives and complex engineering projects, driving them from inception through execution with a major impact on strategic objectives and industry standards.

-Provides direction to internal and external project team members, including contractors and vendors, ensuring design, fit-out, and commissioning phases align with line of business goals and drive cross-functional success.

-Ensures project deliverables meet and exceed company expectations, standards, and schedules by leveraging advanced cross-functional insights and decisive leadership.

-Provides deep expertise in contract administration, managing change orders, cost forecasts, and engineering documentation to mitigate risks and drive industry-leading innovation.

-Mentors and inspires junior engineers and new team members, enhancing line of business capability and guiding team development aligned with line of business objectives.

**Operations Support and Site Validation:**

-Influences strategic efforts in on-site design validation, commissioning, and comprehensive engineering analysis to drive transformative insights and major line of business impact.

-Serves as the principal authority on mission-critical systems, strategically validates and oversees their integration with ongoing operations, ensuring alignment with line of business objectives and industry leadership.

-Provides expert proactive and strategic engineering support during high-impact live events and incident investigations, ensuring rapid resolution, operational continuity, and influence in strategic decision-making processes.

-Manages documentation processes for effective capture, storage, and dissemination, fostering cross-functional collaboration and enforcing standards for best practices across operations and field engineering teams.

**Standards Development and Governance:**

-Influences the creation and ongoing evolution of global data center infrastructure standards, policies, and procedures by driving major business impact, industry alignment, and line of business transformation.

-Leads the development and review of comprehensive documentation for standards adherence, commissioning protocols, and system testing, ensuring excellence through innovative approaches and industry leadership.

-Leads design summits, policy reviews, and commissioning activities, ensuring continuous improvement, strategic alignment across teams, and contribution to industry evolution.

**Technical Innovation and Engineering Excellence:**

-Leads research and evaluation of new designs, materials, and construction methods for mission-critical systems, driving innovation and setting industry benchmarks in data center reliability and efficiency.

-Provides expert guidance on the development and testing of complex engineering solutions, leveraging advanced modeling, component testing, and engineering principles, ensuring positive impact on line of business challenges and opportunities.

-Drives the creation and validation of digitized data center models, ensuring design integrity and capacity planning align with and advance strategic line of business goals.

-Enhances the reliability and performance of components, systems, and installation methods by proactively providing feedback, driving maintenance improvements, and advancing line of business capabilities in production environments.

-Drives the development of internal engineering seminars, training programs, and knowledge-sharing initiatives, fostering a culture of continuous learning and industry-leading expertise across the line of business.

**Network Expertise:**

-Drives collaboration with networking teams on network-related efforts (e.g., building fabrics).

**Automation:**

-Oversees partnership with software engineering team to design data into digital systems for automation.

-Drives coordination of design data to work with internal systems and databases.

-Influences cross-functional leaders and external stakeholders to gain alignment on strategic objectives. Champions transparency and inclusivity by actively seeking, listening to, and incorporating diverse perspectives.

-Leads specialized, advanced problem-solving efforts, serving as an escalation point for complex issues. Guides others to leverage innovative data-driven techniques to address ambiguous or novel issues, identify root causes, and drives the implementation of solutions that prevent future issues.

-Leverages deep industry knowledge and expertise to serve as a thought leader within the organization. Contributes to the advancement of the field or industry through thought leadership (e.g., conference presentations, white papers, research contributions). Maintains and evolves expertise in relevant areas by proactively monitoring emerging trends, technologies, and industry standards, ensuring the organization remains current with best practices. Champions continuous learning and knowledge sharing, promoting professional development across teams. Applies new knowledge to drive advancement and mentors others to do the same.

**Continuous Improvement:**

-Develops innovative solutions and drives the implementation of ideas that increase the efficiency and effectiveness of processes, protocols, and workflows across the organization. Evaluates effectiveness of updated approaches and methods for continued improvement to enhance efficiencies and ensure changes align with organizational goals. Designs and develops metrics to measure success of improvement initiatives.

**Performance and Development:**

-Serves as a subject matter expert regarding talent needs and organizational talent strategy. Imparts leadership and expert knowledge throughout the talent development pipeline including candidate interviews, candidate assessment, and hiring decisions, ensuring alignment with organizational talent strategy.

**Range and benefit information provided in this posting are specific to the stated locations only**

US: Hiring Range in USD from: $139,400 to $291,800 per annum. May be eligible for bonus, equity, and compensation deferral.

Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle's differing products, industries and lines of business.

Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

8. Paid time off: Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position. Accrued Vacation is provided to all other employees eligible for vacation benefits. For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
