Swift action is needed by committed individuals looking for a long-term employment opportunity to help us address multiple needs and restore a reliable drinking water supply to the city of Jackson, MS. As a Laboratory Technician, you will join a collaborative team to sample and analyze water quality in the treatment plants and out in the field and investigate and restore water quality to customers throughout the City of Jackson, MS. Most importantly, you will ensure the safety, health, and well-being of your team.

Our Laboratory Technicians:

* Perform a variety of technical duties involved in the sampling and biological analysis of water quality.

* Investigate and respond to customer complaints on water quality by recommending remedies for customer complaints on water quality, taste, color, odor, and related items.

* Collect water samples and perform bacteriological and chemical analysis for a variety of standard field tests such as chlorine residual and other water quality factors.

* Prepare solutions and reagents for various chemical analyses.

* Maintain, clean and care for laboratory equipment and materials. Calibrate analytical equipment including pH meters, turbidimeter, and other colorimetric meters.

* Analyze delivered potable water ensures compliance with Federal, State, and local water quality regulations.

* Stay abreast of Federal, State, and local laws and regulations on water quality

* Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

* Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

* Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making analytical observations.

* Maintain physical condition to perform walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods of time while also lifting and moving moderate to heavy materials, samples, and equipment.

* Maintain mental capacity which allows making sound decisions and using good judgment while demonstrating intellectual capabilities.

* Effectively handle a work environment and conditions which involve exposure to fumes, odors and hazardous and toxic chemicals, extreme weather conditions, and working around loud noises.

* One year of water treatment or laboratory experience preferred with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and data management systems.

* High School Diploma or GED required specialized training in Water treatment, chemistry, biology, or a related field preferred.

* Valid state driver's license

Ideally, You'll Also Have

* Knowledge of principles of routine chemistry, biology, and bacteriology

* Knowledge of use, care and maintenance of laboratory equipment.

* Knowledge of Occupational hazards and standard safety precautions.

* Knowledge of Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations related to water treatment and water quality.
