Oracle's Cloud Infrastructure team is building new Infrastructure-as-a-Service technologies that operate at high scale in a broadly distributed multi-tenant cloud environment. Our mission is to provide best-in-class compute, storage, networking, database, security, and an ever-expanding set of foundational cloud-based services- including platform services that power container images, artifacts, and imaging workflows used across OCI.

We're looking for hands-on engineers with expertise and passion in solving difficult problems in distributed systems, virtualized infrastructure, and highly available services. If this is you, at Oracle you can design and build innovative new systems from the ground up.
As an ideal candidate you will have designed and implemented large-scale services in a distributed cloud environment. In addition, you will have an understanding of Linux/Unix fundamentals and will combine this knowledge with your hands-on experience in software development. You will champion creating an engineering environment that embodies the best development and testing practices for delivering scalable and highly available services.
In this role, you will help design, build, and operate core OCI platform capabilities including **Container Registry, Artifact Registry, and Imaging** , and you will contribute to engineering efforts that support **rack-level protection** . This role also includes **operational support** responsibilities and participation in an **on-call rotation** .
**Experience**
+ BS in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
+ 5 - 12+ years experience delivering and operating large scale, highly available distributed systems.
+ Strong knowledge of **Java** (and/or related JVM languages such as **Scala** ) and experience with scripting languages such as Python, Perl, etc.
+ Strong knowledge of micro services, data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and distributed systems.
+ Results driven; thrives in a development environment that is agile, collaborative and in start-up mode, even when faced with ambiguity.
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex information in a clear, concise manner to all audiences.
**Systems fundamentals**
+ Working familiarity with networking protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP) and standard network architectures.
+ Strong understanding of databases, NoSQL systems, **storage** and distributed persistence.
+ Knowledge of Linux/Unix fundamentals.
**Technologies**
+ Experience with build automation, continuous integration, or continuous deployment tools ( **CI/CD** ).
+ Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills; experience with **incident management** and operational excellence practices.
+ Experience with containerization technologies such as docker and **kubernetes** .
+ Experience with infrastructure automation tools such as **Terraform** is a plus.
**Top 3 skill sets / technologies in the ideal candidate:**
1. Software Engineering experience with distributed systems within large scale environments
2. 5-12+ years experience working on challenging issues with a self-starter / self-motivated attitude
3. Virtualization, Cloud experience would be a huge plus
**Responsibilities**
As a Principal Member of Technical Staff you will own the software design and development for major components of Oracle's Cloud Infrastructure. You should be both a rock solid coder and a distributed systems generalist, able to dive deep into any part of the stack and low level systems, as well as design broad distributed system interactions. You should value simplicity and scale, work comfortably in a collaborative, agile environment, and be excited to learn.
**Additional / expanded responsibilities include:**
+ Design, develop, and operate platform services supporting **OCI Container Registry** , **Artifact Registry** , and **Imaging** .
+ Build and evolve distributed systems that manage **container images and artifacts** at scale, including reliability, performance, and operational excellence.
+ Contribute to solutions for **rack-level protection** , partnering across infrastructure teams to improve resilience and reduce blast radius.
+ Implement and improve **CI/CD** and automation for service delivery, testing, deployment, and operational readiness.
+ Participate in a **24-hour on-call rotation** , driving incident response, root cause analysis, and permanent fixes through engineering improvements.
+ Provide technical leadership through design reviews, mentoring, and driving best practices across software development and operations.

US: Hiring Range in USD from: $96,800 to $223,400 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.
