Description
The Tactile Graphic Designer for Pearson Braille Services serves as a key member in braille test development adhering to the requirements of braille codes and using proper formatting techniques outlined by the Braille Authority of North America. The person selected will be required to obtain the National of Library Services Braille Transcriber certification, as well as the National Braille Association's certificate in Braille Formatting. As part of School Assessment, the person selected for this position will contribute to the success of numerous state testing programs that offer accommodations for students with visual impairments. Additionally, this role will support ongoing research into the development of tactile materials used in assessments and will provide assistance, as needed, in support of Pearson programs and services.
**Major Responsibilities**
1. Prepare comprehensive, error-free, raised-line tactile graphic representations of print images to be reproduced for use in braille test copies.
2. Work collaboratively with the senior tactile graphic Designer in all aspects of design modification to ensure the existing print images have been represented appropriately for braille readers.
3. Inspect jobs for accuracy prior to submitting for proofreading
4. Collaborate with proofreaders to resolve tactile graphic questions and maintain accurate documentation of decisions
5. Develop and maintain comprehensive knowledge of braille skills and tactile graphics equipment
6. Maintain accurate project logs and provide regular status updates to program leads
7. Manage and complete multiple tasks accurately and on-schedule
8. Collaborate with embossing technician to ensure regular and effective maintenance and repair of tactile graphic equipment
9. Follow all company policies, procedures, and business ethics codes
**Physical Demands/Environmental Factors/ Mental Demands**
+ Frequent use of standard office equipment
+ Prolonged sitting
+ Occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
+ Repetitive hand motions (keyboarding, mouse, Wacom tablet)
+ Light manual labor required which includes the ability to pack, move, pick-up and relocate boxes weighing up to 30 lbs.
+ May work prolonged and irregular hours
+ Work with frequent interruptions
+ Maintain emotional control under pressure
**Qualifications Education**
High school diploma or GED (required)
**Experience**
Minimum of 3 years intermediate graphic design
**Special Knowledge and Skills**
1. Intermediate proficiency in the use of software packages related to office operations, including but not limited to MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat DC
2. Advanced proficiency in the use of graphic design software (e.g., CorelDRAW, Adobe Illustrator)
3. Working knowledge of UV printers
4. Self-starter with the ability to work independently with little to no supervision
5. Excellent organizational, interpersonal/teamwork, and communication (written and verbal) skills
6. Keen attention to detail in all aspects of job
7. Perform all tasks with a sense of urgency
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Associate's or Vocational degree
+ Verbal and written fluency in Spanish
**Compensation at Pearson** is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific location. As required by the California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maryland, New York State, New York City, Washington State, and Washington DC laws, the pay range for this position is as follows:
The minimum full-time hourly range is between $21.85 - $22.33.
