Healthcare and Clinical Services Instructor

QUALIFICATIONS:

Possesses two years of relevant industry experience within the past ten years and meets all remaining requirements for obtaining the 961 Healthcare and Clinical Service Endorsement. (see attachment)

REPORTS TO:

Director, Career and Technical Center/ Terry High School

JOB GOAL:

Teach the assigned classes of students according to the overall goals and objectives of the department, advancing the students’ knowledge of the subject matter.

 

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Such duties and responsibilities as may be assigned, including but not limited to:

Teach assigned classes according to Board policies.

Issue to students a course syllabus at the beginning of the semester and objective sheets for each unit of the course during the semester.

Keep classes in session for the full scheduled time.  (Classes identified in the schedule as independent study classes will meet according to requirements of the instructor.)

Set aside sufficient time for student conferences, guidance, and tutorial assistance.   

Keep prompt, up-to-date, accurate records of attendance, grades, and other reports.

Work a minimum of 40 hours each week on campus during the fall and spring semesters and complete timesheet as directed.

Follow the required institutional process for recording student attendance and identifying “no-shows” in a timely manner.

Participate in the establishment, assessment, and review of Student Learning Outcomes.

Attend general faculty, division, and departmental meetings.

Meet reporting requirements of the Workforce, Career and Technical Education division of the Mississippi Department of Education.

Develop a personal and professional improvement plan in those areas deemed necessary as a result of evaluations.

Serve on committees as appointed.

Participate in departmental meetings, formulation, execution, and evaluations of departmental goals and objectives.

Cooperate in the execution of the Hinds County School District policies.

Recommend budgetary items and submit appropriate documentation for ordering items to the Director’s office.

Participate in the selection of textbook and library materials.

Participate in staff development activities, professional associations, presentations, publications, applied educational research, consulting, evaluations, and similar activities which enhance the individual and the education profession.

Use teaching techniques that include the effective utilization of resources that motivate students to achieve their potential.

Assume responsibility for inventory, care, and maintenance of instructional equipment and supplies.

Present a personal appearance in keeping with contemporary community standards for a professional person.

Maintain current credentials and certifications as required in respective field.

Perform other duties as assigned by the appropriate authority.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

192 days annually with salary in accordance with the Teacher Salary Schedule as approved by the Board of Trustees

 

EVALUATION:

Performance of the Instructor will be evaluated in accordance with provision of Board policy.

961 HEALTHCARE AND CLINICAL SERVICE

 

This endorsement licenses a person to teach the following secondary courses:

995003 Theory and Applications of Health Sciences I

995100 Health Sciences (Core)

995101 Healthcare and Clinical Services

995102 Health Sciences Core I

995103 Health Sciences Core II

995104 Healthcare and Clinical Services I

995105 Healthcare and Clinical Services II

 

Minimum Requirements for this Endorsement:

1. Education

- Applicant must be a Licensed Practical Nurse or Registed Nurse who is a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a two-year (associate) degree or higher. Consideration is being given to require 4-year college degree in the future.

 

2. Technology Literacy and Related Assessment of that Competency

- Applicant must validate technology competency by attaining the established minimum score or higher on an assessment approved by the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE). The assessment must be directly related to technology competency required by the grade level and subject matter being taught. Approved assessments for this license are IC3 or other approved MDE substitute.

 

3. Occupational Experience and Related Assessment of that Experience

- Applicants with an associate degree must have at least two years of verifiable occupational experience in the past ten years. Experience must be appropriate to the subject to be taught

- Applicants with a bachelor or higher degree must have at least one year of verifiable occupational experience in the past ten years. Experience must be appropriate to the subject to be taught.

 

An educator with a standard five – year license may use experience outside of the ten – year timeframe.

- Applicant must possess and maintain an unrestricted Mississippi Registered Nurse License.

- Applicant must possess and maintain CPR Certification for Health Care Provider Basic Life Support through American Heart Association.

 

4. Teacher Education Preparation and Related Assessment(s) of that Education

- Applicant must enroll immediately in Vocational Instructor Preparation (VIP) program. (Exception: Those teachers that have a currently valid five-year license or have completed an alternate route program do not have to enroll in VIP.)

- Applicant must complete the individualized professional development plan (PDP) requirements of the VIP program prior to the expiration date of the three-year Career & Technical license.

- Applicant must successfully complete the Certification of Online Learning (COOL) workshop, module or course approved by MDE.

- Applicant must successfully complete the Healthcare and Clinical Services Certification workshop, module, or course that is approved by the Mississippi Department of Education.
