Quality Engineer


Seemann Composites, the Quality Engineer will be required to review engineering drawings, customer procurement specifications, material and material testing specifications, or other contractual requirements to develop program quality plans, inspection procedures, or shop floor work instructions to support program success.  The individual will also prepare Manufacturing and Inspection Procedures (MIP) and Objective Quality Evidence (OQE) packages that will include raw material certifications, material testing reports, inspection reports, or other objective evidence of product conformance. The individual will monitor manufacturing processes and support in-process and final acceptance / rejection of SCI products.  Position will dually report to the Quality Department Manager and Project Tech Lead as assigned. This position requires use of information which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.

 

Job Requirements:


  • Interface closely with engineering to review customer requirements to develop requirements matrix and project Quality Plans.

  • Develop inspection plans and procedures as required based on customer specifications.

  • Develop / review manufacturing work instructions for adequacy prior to release.

  • Prepare Objective Quality Evidence (OQE) documentation/packages.

  • Evaluate quality control processes and protocols recommending new or improved processes as necessary.

  • Lead root cause, corrective and preventive action investigations and follow up as required.

  • Conduct/coordinate process and product evaluations and assessments on the manufacturing floor and in a laboratory environment.

  • Conduct internal audits on SCI’s Quality Management System for effectiveness as scheduled.

  • Collaborate with various functions to assure compliance and continuous improvement.

  • Conduct internal audits on production processes to evaluate product conformance to customer requirements

  • Assist with the development and improvement of the Quality Management System.

  • This position requires use of information which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a US DoD Security Clearance

  • Due to the nature of our work, United States Citizenship, is required.


 

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Composite, Mechanical, Industrial or related engineering degree is required.

  • Proficient with reading and interpreting engineering drawings, customer specifications, and material requirements.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills required to interface with functional team members, executive management and customer representatives.

  • Demonstrated experience in Quality Engineering and Quality Management Systems.

  • Proficient utilizing Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)

  • Utilize various inspection methods, tools and equipment to accomplish necessary product examinations to include, but not limited to, calibrated equipment, special tooling, part inspections, etc.

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a US DoD security clearance.

  • This position requires use of information which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms

  • Familiarity or experience with SolidWorks model and drawing development.

  • Perform assessments and audits on processes and procedures to ensure compliance to specifications, engineering drawings, procedures and ISO-900:2015 requirements.

  • Perform materials testing processes per written procedures (e.g. Microscopy, Short Beam Shear, Burnouts, etc. if necessary)

  • Implement quality controls and protocols across several program platforms.

  • First article inspection experience desired.

  • Ability to ascend and descend vertical work ladders, work in confined spaces and lift loads of approximately 50 pounds.

  • Ability to bend, stoop or climb as necessary to perform required inspections.

  • Work in this occupation involves using your hands to hold, control, and feel objects.


 

Essential Physical Requirements continued:

Working in a manufacturing environment on the floor, you will be walking, standing and engaging in movement throughout the day, and occasionally to frequently be required to lift items weighting up to 50 lbs. Due to a large variety of job duties (both routine and non-routine), certain duties also may involve, a variety of physical activities including bending, stretching, lifting, stooping, turning, twisting, pushing, pulling, raising arms above shoulders and head, standing working in enclosed areas, climbing stairs or ladders, and operating heavy equipment.  The noise level in the work environment can vary but noise is usually low to moderate.

When working in the office, you would sit most of the time. There's some walking, standing, bending and stooping. You may have to lift and carry things like books, papers or tools weighing 10 lbs. or less. Work in this occupation involves using your hands to hold, control, and feel objects more than one-third of the time. Work in this occupation requires being inside most of the time. Sound and noise moderate and occasionally loud and distracting. Work in this occupation involves making repetitive motions more than one-third of the time. Seeing clearly up close, speaking clearly enough to be able to be understood by others Identifying and understanding the speech of another person.

You may be required to wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety gloves, hearing protection, a respirator or dust mask, protective footwear and protective clothing or uniforms.  Work may be performed in cold and/or hot temperatures and the environment can be dusty.  Physical requirements further include the ability to engage in productive collaborative communication with co-workers and work may need to be performed during non-standard hours, including nights and weekends.
