This position is for a Commercial Truck Driving Instructor with an educational institution with opportunity in Lucedale, MS.
Job Description: Responsible for the teaching of assigned Commercial Truck Driving courses at assigned times as well as the other duties and responsibilities inherent to the position. Reports to the Administrative Dean of the George County Center.
Job Duties:
1. Teach scheduled courses in the day (primarily), afternoon, evenings, holidays, and/or weekends.
2. Work to improve the methods, content, and value of each course taught.
3. Maintain program and state required documentation as required for Class A license, preferably with endorsements.
4. Provide students with MGCCC-approved course objectives and course outlines to insure students’ compliance with program policy.
5. Provide students with hands-on and troubleshooting experience. Coordinate and plan for daily instruction, insuring proper utilization of equipment and students.
6. Present instruction in a professional, timely, and accurate manner consistent with Truck Driver Training policies and procedures.
7. Serve as a “role model” to the student as to dress, conduct, and attitude.
8. Perform extra-curricular and co-curricular duties as assigned.
9. Maintain contact with local companies and active Advisory Committee and maintain proper public relations with the community.
10. Attend departmental and general faculty meetings.
11. Establish, post, and maintain office hours as directed by college policy.
12. Work with the Administrative Dean, other career instructors, and administration in the continued evaluation and improvement of the program curriculum.
13. Participate in recruitment and the student advisory system. Counsel with students and refer to appropriate counselors as necessary.
14. Maintain up-to-date and accurate student attendance and progress records for each student.
15. Be responsible for tractor-trailer trucks and equipment assigned to program inventory.
16. Maintain maintenance records and daily log books on vehicles, keep up with service tasks needed on a mileage or time basis to include oil changes, tire maintenance, preventative maintenance for warranty, etc. and report issues related to vehicles to Program Director.
17. Maintain files, classroom and lab in neat orderly manner.
18. Attend appropriate conferences, workshops, and seminars to facilitate professional development.
19. Document college data needed to complete pertinent reports in a timely manner.
20. Promote and participate in student activities and organizations/associations.
21. Perform other duties as assigned by MGCCC administration.
Mandatory Qualifications:
(M1) A current Commercial OTR (Class A) CDL Truck Driving License.
(M2) High School Diploma or equivalent.
(M3) Documentation of five (5) years of tractor-trailer over-the-road full-time work experience with knowledge of current state and federal regulations relating to the trucking industry.
(M4) Computer and MS Office literate.
(M5) Excellent driving record and ability to be covered by covered by college fleet insurance.
Desirable Qualifications:
(D1) Associate degree in program area.
(D2) Community College and/or Program Area teaching experience.
(D3) Additional CDL endorsements in addition to Class A.
(D4) Possess or able to obtain TWIC Card upon employment.
