Job Summary:
To fill prescriptions, dispense medicines, and provide information to patients and other health practitioners regarding the nature and use of medications. To advise physicians and other health practitioners on the selection, dosage, interactions, and side effects of medications.
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree or Pharm D from an accredited School of Pharmacy; Experience cannot be substituted for educational requirement..
Completion of a pre-employment drug screen required.
Certifications, Licenses or Registration Required: Licensed as a pharmacist in Mississippi or eligible for licensure. Must be licensed prior to hire date.
Possession of a controlled substance license or eligible for licensure. Must be licensed prior to hire date.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of drugs and their indications, contraindications, dosing, side effects, and proper administration. Knowledge of policies and procedures pertaining to the disbursement of pharmaceutical drugs. Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications. Verbal and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills to interact with a wide range of constituencies. The incumbent must maintain general knowledge of appropriate medications for various age populations of UMMC-Grenada: newborn, pediatric, geriatric, etc. This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of UMMC-Grenada. The employee is expected to demonstrate behavior consistent with UMMC values. The employee shall support UMMC-Grenada's strategic plan and the goals and direction of the performance improvement plan.
Responsibilities
Responsible for providing prescribed medications and other pharmaceuticals as needed for patient care which includes compounding, dispensing and labeling of drugs, interpreting and evaluating prescriptions, handling and storing medications.
Acts as a consultant to medical and nursing staff as needed and maintains prescription records and any other activities included in the practice of pharmacy.
Performs activities according to professional standards in compliance with established policies and procedures of the hospital and with federal, state, and local regulations governing pharmacy operation and handling of medications.

Physical and Environmental Demands
Requires occasional exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environment such as high noise level and exposure to heat and cold, occasional exposure to biohazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations, occasional travelling to offsite locations, occasional activities subject to significant volume changes of a seasonal/clinical nature, constant work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, occasional bending, occasional lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, occasional crouching/stooping, occasional kneeling, occasional pushing/pulling, occasional reaching, frequent sitting, frequent standing, occasional twisting, and frequent walking.
