QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid state certificate endorsed in guidance (Mississippi Certification Code 436)
Three or more years teaching experience in a middle or high school
Knowledge of computers; related technology and software
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board or administration may find appropriate and acceptable
Proficient in the use of voicemail and e mail

JOB SUMMARY: To help students overcome problems that impede learning and to assist them in making
educational, occupational, and life plans that hold promise for their personal fulfillment as mature and responsible men and women.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assists students in evaluating their aptitudes and abilities through the interpretation of individual standardized test scores and other pertinent data.
Works with students in evolving education and occupation plans in terms of such evaluation.
Remains readily available to students to provide counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding and maturity.
Takes an active role in interpreting the school’s objectives to students, parents and the community at large.
Works with teachers and other staff members to familiarize them with the general range of services offered by the student guidance or counseling services department and to improve the educational prospects of individual students being counseled.
Supervises the preparation and processing of college, scholarship and employment applications.
Initiates, assembles, maintains and interprets accurate attendance records, cumulative progress records, activity records and uniform transcript records for assigned students.
Supervises student scheduling. Assists in the fostering and promotion of a positive school climate
Maintains a professional demeanor during all interactions between colleagues, parents, students and administration
Inputs MSIS and STI data.
Performs other related duties as requested or assigned.
