Design Engineer

Viking Range, LLC in Greenwood, MS seeks a Design Engineer.


 


Requirements: Bachelor’s in mechanical engineering or closely related field and 5 yrs experience in design engineering. In the alternative, a master’s degree and two (2) years of experience in the same fields is acceptable. Must have experience with each of the following: (1) Designing and developing complex mechanical parts and assemblies for outdoor cooking products, including sheet metal and plastic components, using 3D CAD tools including as Creo, SolidWorks, and AutoCAD, from concept through production release; (2) Creating, reviewing, and maintaining engineering drawings, Bills of Material (BOM), and managing engineering changes through formal ECN/ECR processes using Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems including Windchill, Arena, and 3DX; (3) Application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), tolerance stack-up analysis, and Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), along with Six Sigma methodologies (DMAIC), to improve product quality, manufacturability, and reliability in high-volume manufacturing environments; (4) Utilizing Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement tools, including root cause analysis methods such as 5-Why, Fishbone, and 8D, as well as Cp/Cpk and statistical analysis using Minitab, to identify process gaps and implement data-driven improvements in efficiency, quality, and cost; and (5) Supporting New Product Introduction (NPI), value engineering and cost-reduction initiatives, supplier collaboration, and high-volume manufacturing of household appliances and outdoor cooking products, ensuring alignment between design intent, manufacturing capability, and quality requirements.


 


Job Description: The Design Engineer will to work as part of a process and product improvement/inception unit of Viking Range, focusing on product and process development by using engineering principles to increase the efficiency and value of the business, while utilizing cost effective mechanisms and improving overall product performance, reliability, and safety. Daily tasks include: Apply mechanical engineering principles to develop an optimized product design; Develop and maintain project schedules, including program plans that identify work scope, schedules, milestones, tasks, priorities, and risks; Manage program/project issues and risks by effectively working with departments to develop parallel paths, contingencies, and risk mitigation plans to meet project deliverables per budget and schedule; Collaborate with other departments to ensure alignment with overall project scope and schedules; Use methodologies like Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to identify underlying causes of inefficiencies or defects in Viking Range products; Regularly monitor the impact of implemented changes and identify opportunities for further enhancement; Document and report on the outcomes of continuous improvement projects, including cost savings, efficiency gains, and quality improvements; Develop solutions that keep the principles of LEAN/Six Sigma and design for manufacturing and assembly (DFM/A). Attend and actively participate in project team meetings to ensure overall project alignment; Effectively communicate program/project status to all stakeholders including project team members, resource owners, suppliers, and customer groups; Escalate issues and risks as appropriate to ensure program/project success; Use 3D CAD software packages to build a conceptual idea for prototyping and communications to other departments; and Analyze product applications, investigate customer/field problems, and answer customer inquiries related to product designs.
