Job Overview

Responsible for the management of health services which includes medical services for students, mental health care, clinic coverage and physical and dental examinations in compliance with government, corporate, and management directives.
While this position is primarily a day shift position, there will be occassions when after-hours response is necessary for medical and operational needs.

Administered by the U.S. Department of Labor, Gulfport Job Corps Center is a part of the nation's largest career technical training and education program.  This position is funded through June 30, 2026, with continuation beyond that date contingent on future funding approval.
Pay: $70,000-$76,000/yr.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties & Job Functions:
Plan, coordinate and manage the administrative and health services activities of the center.
Develop departmental budget, monitor, and control expenditures. Review and recommend changes to budget authorizations.
Develop and implement new and revised policies and procedures affecting health services. Coordinate with other departments to ensure compliance with Center objectives and provide applicable training.
Manage and coordinate comprehensive wellness and health care services for students. Coordinate all phases of direct medical, dental, and mental health services for students.
Provide direction and technical support in the operation of the weight control, pregnancy, mental health, smoking cessation and other health related programs
Manage record keeping and reporting on student injuries, diseases and disabilities.
Serve as Center disability coordinator, manage accommodation plans for students and coordinate the Center's interdisciplinary team.
Review, report and process accident/injury reports for staff and student job related injuries. Identify unsafe practices and develop corrective measures to minimize risk and lost time accidents in accordance with corporate, government and Job Corps regulations.
Coordinate services with outside agencies and hospitals, parents/guardians, and admissions counselors.
Review and approve payment to all outside vendors, subcontracted staff and services, ensuring that expenditures are within contractual and budgetary limitations; coordinate third party payments for health-related services.
Supervise students assigned to Health Services from the health occupations career technical training program.
Serve as Health Services representative to the Wolverine Assembly.
Assist in the development of community linkages in health area.
Transport students for medical care when necessary
Maintain accountability of student and government property; adhere to safety practices.
Cultivate and maintain a climate on Center, which is free of harassment, intimidation, and disrespect to provide a safe place for staff and students to work and learn.
Responsible for safeguarding the integrity of student health records and complying with established corporate and Department of Labor (DOL) Data Integrity guidelines for student leaves, medical separations, etc.
Promote student attainment of career success standards through modeling appropriate skills, mentoring students, monitoring, skills acquisition and intervening when inappropriate behavior is observed.

Job Requirements

Mandatory:
Must be a licensed registered nurse in the state in which the work is being performed.
Three (3) years related experience, one of which must be in a supervisory capacity.
Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Successfully pass background check and drug test.
Preferred:
Bachelor's Degree in health-related field.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed primarily in a clinic setting, but may take place anywhere on Center. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet. Have a high level of social contact. They work closely with students and other office staff. Communicate with people daily by telephone, e-mail, and in person. Are occasionally placed in conflict situations in which others may become rude or unpleasant. Work as part of a team.

Physical Requirements:
This position requires the employee to be able to frequently sit, stand, walk and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. Work somewhat close to other people, such as when sharing office space. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
