Pre-K Teacher Job Description
Position Overview
The Pre-K Teacher is responsible for creating a nurturing, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for children ages 3–5. This role fosters social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth through structured activities, play-based learning, and individualized instruction.
Key Responsibilities
• Curriculum & Instruction
• Plan and implement age-appropriate lessons aligned with early childhood standards.
• Incorporate play, storytelling, music, art, and movement into daily activities.
• Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
• Classroom Management
• Establish a safe, inclusive, and positive classroom environment.
• Guide children in developing social skills, self-regulation, and independence.
• Maintain routines that support stability and predictability.
• Assessment & Communication
• Observe and document student progress and developmental milestones.
• Communicate regularly with parents/guardians about student growth and needs.
• Collaborate with colleagues and administrators to support student success.
• Professional Standards
• Adhere to state licensing requirements and school policies.
• Participate in ongoing professional development.
• Model respect, empathy, and enthusiasm for learning.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field (required/preferred depending on employer).
• State teaching certification/licensure for Pre-K or Early Childhood (as applicable).
• Prior experience working with young children in a classroom or childcare setting.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to foster creativity, curiosity, and a love of learning.
Working Conditions
• Full-time, school-year schedule.
• Classroom environment with active engagement in indoor and outdoor activities.
• Requires physical stamina to interact with young children (e.g., sitting on the floor, lifting up to 25 lbs).
