Purpose of Position
The Sports Turf Specialist will be a member of a highly talented team that makes up part of the turf management staff for mTrade Park. He/she will be directly involved in the day-to-day field, grounds and park maintenance. The Sports Turf Specialist will perform all duties required to maintain a sand base and native soil Bermuda grass fields on all ball fields as well as synthetic turf maintenance. The Sports Turf Specialist will report directly to the Sports Turf Manager/Associate Turf Grass Manager. Other duties include preparing the infield skin, mound area, plate area, sod work, fertilizing, weed and disease control, aerating, topdressing, mowing, edging, irrigation, pregame field prep, tarp handling, restrooms cleaning and field set up.
Supervision Received
The immediate supervisor for this position is to the mTrade Park Director, Sports Turf Manager, Associate Turf Grass Manager.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge:
The Sports Turf Specialist must have knowledge of playing surfaces, as well as the common and perimeter areas of mTrade Park. The Sports Turf Specialist will perform all duties required to maintain a sand base and native soil Bermuda grass fields on all ball fields as well as synthetic turf maintenance. Other duties include preparing the infield skin, mound area, plate area, sod work, fertilizing, weed and disease control, aerating, topdressing, mowing, edging, irrigation, pregame field prep, tarp handling, restrooms cleaning and field set up.

Special Requirements
Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma or GED and a valid driver’s license. At least 2-3 years of turf management experience..
Tools and Equipment Used
Use various pieces of office equipment, including typewriters, photocopiers and facsimile machine. Use a multi-line telephone system to answer and transfer calls. Must have knowledge of and be able to operate all special lawn equipment used to maintain grounds.
Use a 10-key adding machine or calculator

Work Environment
The Sports Turf Manager works regular hours, with occasional extra work when the workload demands it. There is no shift work involved with this position. The person in this position is not on call. 90% of the work for this position is outdoors. The position has accountability for monetary; safety and legal issues related to the work for which this position is responsible.
There is some exposure to chemicals and/or hazardous materials. The stress level associated with this position is moderately high, but may be even higher depending on the workload
