Report To: Plant Manager FLSA Status: Exempt
Job Summary:
This position is accountable to partner with the facility management to lead Safety functions providing technical support and direction to the facility to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
· Lead
o Near Miss Investigations
o Property Damage Investigations
o Any Injury Investigations
· Daily Rounds of all operating areas
o Inspect for Housekeeping
§ Including the fire system (risers, exits, fire pump room)
o Inspect for Adherence to Safety Commitments
o Inspect for daily forklift audits
o Inspect for fire system audits
o Make daily observations regarding cell phone usage
o Make daily observations regarding PPE standards.
o Participate in the daily BBS system.
· Monthly safety training for Operations and Maintenance, 6:30am Monday and Wednesday, large training room
· Mill Manager, Production Managers, and Maintenance Manager safety coaching regarding tactical
Strategic
· Connect the Marcal Safety Standards with actual compliance
· Review safety objectives
· OSHA Log Updated and corrected
· Severe Injury Fatality (SIF) Plan review and follow up
· FM Global action plan (in coordination with Mill Manager)
· Inspect all fire safety systems (sprinklers, alarm systems, risers, hydrant flow tests, main electric pump, diesel back up pump). Are there deficiencies?
· Inspect LOTO systems in paper manufacturing and converting. Are there deficiencies?
· Inspect and observe suspended load practices in paper manufacturing, converting, and maintenance shops. Are there deficiencies?
· Inspect Hot Work process. Inspect Hot Work areas. Are there deficiencies?
· Are we following working at height standards?
· Are trailers locked out when we are loading or unloading?
· Are we separating pedestrians for forklifts while loading or unloading?
· Do we follow confined space standards?
· Complete a guarding audit of the facility.
· Are we operating forklifts safely, audit, check and adjust.
· Enhance the BBS system from leadership to all employees
· Review of the Yellow Card System and all open items
· Understand the 5 employees to keep an eye on for safety compliance
· Survey Walking Working Surfaces (ladders, platforms, walkways, floor coverings)
· Maintain and document safety training records
· Maintain communication with all employees and staff to ensure all are aware of safety policies, procedures, metrics, and improvement initiatives.
· Maintain records to ensure compliance with environmental regulations including storm water, waste disposal, and air emissions to include tracking compliance with OSHA.
· Conduct root cause analysis and require reporting for safety projects and any recordable injuries. Provide support to the other functional areas for root cause analysis of non-recordable injuries and near miss events.
· Provide training to meet regulatory requirements and prevent injury. Monitor and report training compliance metrics according to plan.
· Initiate an Arc Flash Safety Program if time permits.
